Reading at Home
In Year 4, it is important that you read with your child at least 5 times a week and sign their reading record. Children can access their reading books through Reading Plus using their login details. Reading Plus is an adaptive literacy program to improve reading speed, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension for students. We will also provide a book which is at the correct level for their reading if they are unable to access reading plus.

Homework
Magma Maths is a website that makes math learning interactive, enabling students to show work and providing real-time insights into their thinking. Teachers will assign children work based on their current learning. Use your child's login to access the lessons.
Weekly spellings and times tables will be given out on a Monday to be assessed on the following Monday.
At the end of Year 4, all children are assessed on their times table facts. You can find more information here. We expect children to be practising their times table on TTRockstars at least twice a week. Their login details will be glued into their Reading Record. https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student
P.E and Swimming
We are fortunate enough to be able to take children swimming weekly during their time in Year 4. Please ensure children have swimming trunks or a swimming costume, as well as a towel and a swimming hat. Please note: swimming is for all children, whether they are beginners or experienced swimmers.

A gentle reminder that our school P.E. kit is a plain white t-shirt, black shorts and plain black pumps or trainers for outdoor sports, without visible branding. PE kit should be brought in a separate bag for children to change into before their PE lesson.
Water Bottles and snacks
Don't forget to bring a water bottle and healthy snacks to school each day - it is important for children to stay hydrated throughout the day by drinking plain water. Please label bottles and refill them each day.
Children are welcome to bring a healthy snack, such as fruit and vegetables, to school each day for snack time. Milk can be purchased at the start of each half-term (please speak to the school office about this).

English
In English this term, we will be using the Ready Steady Write scheme to help us develop our reading and writing skills. Our first focus text will be 'Arthur and the Golden Rope' by Joe Todd-Stanton, which will inspire us to write a myth narrative and information guide. Later in the term, we will explore 'Lost Happy Endings' by Carol Ann Duffy, using this beautiful story to create our own twisted narrative and persuasive letter. These engaging texts will not only help children build key writing skills but also spark their creativity and imagination.
Science
This term in Science, we will be exploring a range of exciting topics to develop the children’s curiosity and understanding of the world around them. The children will learn about light and sound, discovering how they travel and how we see and hear different things. They will investigate states of matter, exploring solids, liquids, and gases through hands-on experiments. Our learning will also cover living things and their habitats, helping children understand how animals and plants adapt and thrive in their environments. In addition, we will study plants, looking closely at their parts, life cycles, and what they need to grow and stay healthy. Throughout all these topics, children will take part in practical activities and experiments, encouraging them to work scientifically, ask questions, make predictions, and record their findings in fun and engaging ways.
